Pear trees are native to Europe and western Asia but are grown in the northern climates in the US for fruit production and ornamental use. Pear trees have white flowers that bloom before the leaves emerge. Pear leaves are leathery-feeling, with a deep glossy green on top and a paler green on bottom. They can grow to 45' tall. Some varieties are noted for their deep red autumn color. All pears are susceptible to a disease called fireblight which can kill them.
